Description of the partner organisation
WWF Italy, Environmentalist Association, set up in 1966 (WWF Italia ONG - ONLUS) is one of the independent national organisations of WWF International, closely connected through a precise charter network. It has a registered office in Rome. Today WWF Italy counts roughly 300.000 associates who can join and participate in the activities of the 22 Regional Delegations and the 280 Sections, that form the peripheral and local structure of the organisation. Moreover every Delegation can set up various Sections and active groups (currently approximately 300) on its territory. A special commitment is the management of Oasis: this is the technical-naturalistic management of WWF's Oasis and Reserves, (100 areas with a total extension of approximately 32.000 hectares).
Description of the activities
WWF Italy is part of the WWF International network, which includes sea turtle and cetaceasn among the priority taxa on which to focus activities. Accordingly, WWF Italy has been carrying out a wide range of activities related to sea turtles in Italy for almost 30 years, thanks to its extensive network of working groups and partnerships.
WWF contributes to NETCET with its experience in sea turtle conservation and research, such as change of fishermen practices through information/awareness, assessment of aspects of turtle biology and conservation, public awareness, and collaboration with institutions. WWF is responsible for the awareness campaigns of the project and it will also implement the campaigns in specific areas in Italy. WWF will contribute to strengthening conservation capacity along the Adriatic coast of Italy, to run specific studies and to plan conservation strategies of sea turtles in Italy.
