Description of the partner organisation

The Herpetofauna Albanian Society (HAS) is an association which works on the protection and monitoring of the environment and different endangered species (amphibians and reptiles) in Albania. It has about 70 members and is composed entirely of volunteers. It is a National private NGO Environmental and Educative Society based in Tirana, Albania and was established in 2001. HAS's budget is based solely on income from projects. In HAS there are Professors, Doctors and specialists in Biological Science, Biologists, Biology Teachers and Students, who have also participated in many meetings, Symposiums (2000 Orlando-USA, 2006 Crete-Greece, 2007 Myrtle Beach-South Carolina), Congresses (2005 Antalia-Turkey) and Conferences, and seminars organized within Albania and abroad. Prof. Dr. Idriz Haxhiu is the Director of HAS and has 45 years experience in the study of amphibians and reptiles.

Description of the activities

HAS will lead, manage and coordinate all the activities related to the establishment and implementation of the emergency and education centre in the Patok area, Drini Bay, Albania. HAS will manage monitoring and raising awareness about the conservation of sea turtles in Albanian Adriatic coastal areas. HAS will update the actual National Plan for the Conservation of Sea turtles in Albania working with the relevant governmental institutes which will be involved in this process in order to produce optimal results. HAS will coordinate and organize the key personnel which will carry out all the activities and will provide support on planning, monitoring, logistics, administration and preparation of the Progress Reports..
